Brent Burns Signs with Avalanche for 22nd Season

Brent Burns has signed a one-year contract with the Colorado Avalanche to begin his 22nd NHL season. The 40-year-old defenseman is driven by his passion and desire to finally win the Stanley Cup, which he believes is still within reach despite being in his late 30s. Burns’ legendary dedication to training and playing for his team have fueled his motivation, with family also playing a key role.

Burns has experienced significant postseason success throughout his career, including reaching the 2016 Stanley Cup Final with the San Jose Sharks, but ultimately falling short. He is now looking to replicate this level of success in Colorado, where he will join a talented roster led by Nathan MacKinnon and Cale Makar. Despite no longer being among the league’s top defensemen, Burns is confident that he can contribute to the team’s efforts.

Burns’ signing marks him as one of only 23 players in NHL history to have skated in at least 22 seasons. Last season with Carolina, he demonstrated his continued ability to produce on the ice, posting 29 points in 82 regular-season games. With the Avalanche, Burns will be aiming to lead Colorado back into contention for the Stanley Cup.
