The Stop Killing Games initiative has surged past its goals in less than two weeks, with the European Citizens’ Initiative surpassing one million signatures and obligating the European Commission to examine and take action. However, concerns have been raised about the authenticity of these signatures, as Ross Scott, the initiative’s founder, claims to have received screenshots of potential spoofing campaigns from 4chan and Discord.
Scott warned people not to attempt to manipulate the petition, stating that “this is a government process” and that spoiling signatures is a crime. He emphasized that while some individuals may be prosecuted for minor infractions, those involved in large-scale operations could face severe consequences.
The issue of fake signatures has made Scott’s life more complicated, as he now must verify the authenticity of the petition. The UK petition, which has crossed the 100,000-signature threshold, appears to be legitimate, with nearly 140,000 signatures currently on record. However, Scott remains optimistic about the EU petition’s chances, citing cooperation between Interpol and the FBI.
As the campaign continues until July 31st, Scott is now facing a fresh headache, having to maintain scrutiny over the petition’s legitimacy. Despite this, he expressed relief that the UK petition has reached its goal, acknowledging that some individuals may have found it “harder and more complicated” for him to deal with.
