LeBron Trade ‘Unlikely’ as Warriors Discuss 3-Team Deal

The Golden State Warriors have reportedly discussed a three-team trade involving Jonathan Kuminga, Dennis Schröder, and Malik Monk with the Sacramento Kings and Detroit Pistons. The deal would send Kuminga to the Kings in exchange for Monk, Devin Carter, Dario Šarić, and two second-round picks.

Kuminga’s future has been uncertain since the Warriors did not agree to a contract extension with him before the 2024-25 season. As a restricted free agent, he became available to other teams this offseason. The Kings are said to be optimistic about signing Kuminga, given his limited experience and inconsistent play.

Despite being a top-10 pick in the 2021 NBA draft, Kuminga has struggled to find a consistent role with the Warriors. His performance was impacted by the addition of Jimmy Butler, who played in only three games with Golden State in the first round of the playoffs. The Kings’ slower pace and more defined roles for their young players could be beneficial for Kuminga’s development.

A trade would give Kuminga a fresh start, allowing him to tap into his potential without being overshadowed by veteran stars like Stephen Curry, Jimmy Butler, and Draymond Green. The deal seems likely as the Kings are not on the same championship timeline as the Warriors, making it more feasible for them to give Kuminga an opportunity to grow in 2025-26.
