A new study by US researchers found that consuming even small amounts of processed meat, sugar-sweetened beverages, and trans fatty acids significantly increases the risk of type 2 diabetes, ischemic heart disease, and colorectal cancer. The study analyzed over 70 studies involving millions of participants, concluding that there is no “safe” level of consumption for these foods. Even minimal increases in consumption were associated with significant health risks, including an 11% greater risk of type 2 diabetes from eating one hot dog a day and an 8% greater risk of developing ischemic heart disease from drinking one extra can of sugary pop daily.
