Yankees Pitcher Clarke Schmidt Placed on 15-Day IL with Forearm Soreness

New York Yankees pitcher Clarke Schmidt has been placed on the 15-day injured list due to right forearm soreness. The move was made just a day after his start at Toronto was cut short in three innings. An MRI is scheduled for Friday to determine the extent of the injury.

Schmidt, 29, had been dealing with arm soreness since June 4. He allowed three runs and four hits, including George Springer’s two-run homer, during his latest outing before being removed from the game. The Yankees also recalled right-hander Scott Effross and left-hander Jayvien Sandridge from Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre.

Schmidt had previously suffered Tommy John surgery in May 2017 and is now 4-4 with a 3.32 ERA in 14 starts. His latest injury may cast doubt on his ability to recover quickly, but he remains optimistic about the outcome.

“I’m praying everything will be clean and minor,” Schmidt said of his injury. “We’ll see what happens.”
