Sixteen Dublin Flights Grounded Due to French Air Traffic Control Strike

Flights between Dublin Airport and several European cities have been cancelled due to a two-day air traffic control strike in France. A total of 16 flights have been grounded, affecting passengers bound for Paris, Biarritz, Nice, and Murcia in Spain.

The Irish airline Ryanair has been most affected, cancelling 170 flights across Thursday and Friday, disrupting over 30,000 passengers. The disruption mainly affects flights over French airspace en route to their destination, including those from Spain to Ireland and the UK to Greece.

Air France’s spokesperson has confirmed that no cancellations have been made for flights in and out of Cork Airport. EasyJet has also confirmed that it does not operate in Northern Ireland and has not been impacted by the strikes.

The European summer holiday season is just beginning, and the strike is causing significant disruption to air travel plans. Ryanair’s CEO Michael O’Leary has called on the European Commission to take “urgent action” to ensure air traffic control services are fully staffed during national strikes and that flights over French airspace are protected.

France’s civil aviation authority DGAC has asked airlines to reduce flight schedules at several airports across the country, while Ryanair criticises France for not protecting aircrafts flying over French airspace. The airline is urging passengers to check with their airline for updates on their flight status before their trip.
