Trump Tariffs Skyrocket Barbecue Prices

The 4th of July barbecue season is expected to be more expensive this year due to President Donald Trump’s imposed tariffs. Since his tariff announcement in April, the price of a six-pack of bottled domestic beer has grown by over 13%. This increase affects not only beer but also other BBQ essentials such as outdoor folding chairs and grill accessories.

A recent congressional analysis found that consumers may spend extra on typical BBQ items this summer due to rising costs. The average cost of a grocery store trip for a cookout has climbed by an annualized rate of 12.7% since April.

The investigation used price-checking websites to track Walmart’s prices and discovered significant price rises for imported beers, griddle accessories, and camping chairs. However, other items such as propane grill, sunscreen, and aluminum foil saw more moderate increases.

With the tariffs expected to have a greater effect on pricing across the economy this summer, consumers can expect to see higher sticker prices on various items. This trend is already appearing in department store chains in the US, with evidence of inflation seen at stores like Macy’s and Nordstrom.
