Gemini, a conversational AI model, is now integrating customized tools called Gems into its Google Workspace side panels. Previously limited to the Gemini app, these Gems enable users to further leverage Gemini’s power with tailored tasks and workflows.
Pre-made Gems, such as Writing editor, Brainstormer, and Learning coach, are available for use. However, creating custom Gems allows users to “complete specific goals, tasks, and workflows” tailored to their needs. These custom Gems can be grounded in files that users upload.
The integration allows Workspace capabilities like @-mentioning, accessing files/folders, and more. Users can leverage Gems for various purposes, including:
* Copywriting: Create content tailored to a target audience with pre-loaded templates.
* Sales interactions: Use information specific to a company or prospect to create engaging sales content.
* Job role assistance: Leverage an “assistant gem” to provide relevant summaries and internal communications.
The Gemini side panel in Gmail, Drive, Docs, Sheets, and Slides now features a new Gems section with pre-made and custom macros. Users can access these capabilities through the Gemini website for Google Workspace customers.
