US FCC Regains Wireless Spectrum Auction Authority

The US Federal Communications Commission (FCC) has regained its authority to conduct wireless spectrum auctions, a move hailed as key to the nation’s economic and national security interests.

President Donald Trump’s One Big Beautiful Bill was passed by the House of Representatives yesterday and is expected to be signed into law today. The bill restores the agency’s authority, allowing for the allocation of airwaves over several years.

FCC Chair Brendan Carr praised the passing of the bill, stating it would “unlock airwaves” and boost the economy and security. He also thanked President Trump and congressional Republicans for securing this “big win”.

The move aims to create jobs, encourage innovation, and expand high-speed connections to more Americans. The FCC has already announced plans to auction off spectrum licences for advanced wireless services in its next meeting on 24 July.
