Arizona Republicans’ Hypocrisy on National Debt

Arizona’s Republican lawmakers have long criticized the growing national debt, warning of its dangers to the nation’s fiscal stability and future generations. However, when it comes to actually voting on bills that increase the debt, they often follow President Trump’s lead.

U.S. Reps. Andy Biggs, David Schweikert, Juan Ciscomani, Eli Crane, Abe Hamadeh, and Paul Gosar have all sounded alarm bells about the national debt in the past, predicting dire financial consequences if Congress fails to act. Yet, when faced with a bill that would add trillions of dollars to the debt, they voted overwhelmingly in favor.

The bill in question, which makes tax cuts for the wealthy permanent, would increase the national debt by $3.3 trillion over the next decade. Despite warnings from their own colleagues about the “house of cards” that is the current financial situation, Arizona’s Republican lawmakers have consistently sided with President Trump on this issue.

This hypocrisy raises questions about the motivations and trustworthiness of these politicians. Are they truly committed to addressing the national debt crisis, or are they simply following party lines and doing the bidding of their leader? The votes on this bill will provide insight into their priorities and values.
