Thunder Moon or Buck Moon to Appear on Thursday

The Thunder Moon, also known as the Buck Moon, is set to appear in the sky on Thursday. This full moon marks the beginning of astronomical summer and is recognized for its notable timing with frequent summer thunderstorms.

The name “Thunder Moon” comes from its alignment with these storms, while the “Buck Moon” refers to the growth spurts of male deer whose antlers are in full velvet by July. In Alaska, this month’s moon has also been dubbed the Salmon Moon due to its coincidence with salmon runs.

Looking ahead, July promises to be a great month for stargazing, with two meteor showers and a view of the Milky Way available for observation.
