Samsung is set to revolutionize foldable phone design with its seventh generation of Galaxy Z Fold. The new device promises to feel closer to a traditional smartphone while maintaining the benefits of a foldable screen. According to Drew Blackard, Samsung’s senior vice president of mobile product management, the goal is to make foldables more accessible and appealing to a wider audience.
The Galaxy Z Fold 7 is expected to be significantly thinner and lighter than its predecessor, with some estimates suggesting it could be around 0.34 inches thick when closed and weigh just over 200 grams. This would make it comparable in weight to the iPhone 16 Pro and potentially even thinner than the Oppo Find N5.
The design changes are largely driven by customer feedback, with 33% of Fold users expressing a desire for improved portability and 28% wanting flagship cameras. Samsung is also exploring a pricing strategy that could help make its foldable phones more appealing to consumers, including a rumored Galaxy FE (Fan Edition) model at a lower price point.
To showcase the benefits of thin design, Samsung has been promoting hands-on experience with its S25 Edge phone, which boasts a similar camera quality to premium models despite being relatively slim. The company is now looking to replicate this success with the Z Fold 7, aiming to make foldables more mainstream and appealing to those who may have been hesitant in the past.
The release of Samsung’s new Galaxy Z Fold 7 could be timed strategically to respond to rising competition from Apple, which is rumored to be developing its own foldable iPhone. However, Blackard remains confident that Samsung’s innovative approach will help the company stay ahead of the curve.
