Indiana Fever star Caitlin Clark is expected to return to action against the Golden State Valkyries on Wednesday after missing five games with a left groin injury. The 5-on-5 practice session on Monday marked a crucial step in her recovery, and barring any setbacks, she will be available to play.
Clark expressed her excitement to get back into the flow of playing with her teammates, stating that it’s been hard watching from the sidelines for a few weeks. Despite missing 10 of the Fever’s 18 games this season, Clark is averaging 18.2 points, 5.0 rebounds, and 8.9 assists per game.
Clark’s return comes as the Fever are nearing the All-Star break with five games remaining in the schedule. She will serve as a team captain for the break and will make her team selections alongside Napheesa Collier on Tuesday night.
The Fever have gone 3-2 during Clark’s absence, including a victory against the Minnesota Lynx in the championship game of the WNBA Commissioner’s Cup. However, Clark is uncertain about her workload against the Valkyries, aiming to play an upper-20s minutes but also cautious not to overdo it.
