Google is set to introduce a new toggle in its Google app that allows users to customize their Pixel phone’s search bar layout. The toggle, currently under development, will enable users to turn off the newly added AI Mode shortcut and restore the original layout.
The change is aimed at addressing the cluttered search bar, which now has four separate functions: voice search, Google Lens, AI Mode, and a fourth function that can be customized by tapping the “Customize Pixel Search Box” heading. The toggle will allow users to switch between these modes or disable AI Mode altogether.
According to an APK teardown from Android Authority, the new feature is fully functional once enabled, and it’s likely to roll out in the near future. This change could bring relief to users who have struggled with the current search bar layout, which has been criticized for its complexity.
