The world is witnessing an increase in sophisticated cybersecurity threats emanating from North Korea, Iran, China, and the emerging threat of deepfakes.
North Korean cybercriminals have been identified as infiltrating Western businesses by deploying thousands of IT workers to send money back to their regime. However, a recent US Justice Department operation has targeted these individuals, arresting one American and seizing over 200 computers.
Meanwhile, Iranian hackers are threatening to release emails allegedly stolen from Donald Trump’s presidential campaign, which they claim is worth 100 GB. The threat comes after the Israel-Iran conflict.
In another alarming development, Chinese hackers have been found “dormant” in US telecoms networks. According to FBI officials, these hackers will only become more potent if they remain within the systems for extended periods.
Additionally, deepfake platforms are becoming increasingly popular, and a recent leaked document has revealed that one of the largest such apps is planning an expansion into creating non-consensual explicit images of celebrities and influencers with a multimillion-euro budget.
These emerging threats highlight the need for vigilance in cybersecurity.
