Giants Catcher Patrick Bailey Hits Record-Breaking Walk-Off Homer

Patrick Bailey made history Tuesday night, becoming the third catcher in Major League Baseball history to hit a walk-off, inside-the-park home run. The three-run shot had an exit velocity of 103.4 mph and bounced off the brick wall at Oracle Park.

Bailey’s homer was the first time in nearly nine years a player hit a walk-off, inside-the-park home run in the majors. It was also his first at-bat with a big league team, as he had been called up from the minor leagues earlier in the season.

“I just knew I got it well,” Bailey said of his initial thought after hitting the ball. “I saw it was towards Triples Alley and I was like, ‘Oh, I got to go.'”

Bailey joined Pat Moran and Bennie Tate as the only catchers in MLB history to hit a walk-off, inside-the-park home run. The Giants’ victory marked their ninth win of the season in their final at-bat.

Giants manager Bob Melvin praised Bailey’s performance, saying, “He has gotten some big hits this year… In big situations he’s come through.” Bailey couldn’t recall if he had hit an inside-the-park home run before but was just happy to be on the field and contribute to the team’s win.
