Israel’s military attacks on Gaza have significantly worsened the already-strained healthcare system in the territory. In a recent strike, at least four people, including Dr. Musa Khafajeh, a prominent gynecologist, were killed when an Israeli Air Force missile hit a tent in northwest Khan Yunis. This incident is part of a broader pattern of attacks on medical personnel in Gaza, which have resulted in the deaths of dozens more.
In recent months, Israel’s fire has targeted multiple medical facilities and staff members. For instance, a missile strike three days ago killed seven individuals, including Dr. Marwan Al-Sultan, the director of the Indonesian Hospital in Beit Lahia, and his relatives. These attacks have severely impacted Gaza’s fragile healthcare infrastructure, exacerbating an existing crisis.
The Israeli actions are further complicated by the fact that medical supplies can be imported into Gaza, but doctors themselves cannot travel to or receive care outside the territory due to strict Israeli restrictions. This paradox highlights the urgent need for a peaceful resolution to the ongoing conflict and the protection of civilians, including medical workers, in the midst of it.
