Evenepoel Wins Tour de France Time Trial, Pogačar Takes Yellow Jersey

Remco Evenepoel secured victory in stage five’s individual time trial to move into second overall. Tadej Pogačar took the yellow jersey after finishing 16 seconds behind Evenepoel and holding a 42-second lead over his rival. The Slovenian champion aims for his fourth Tour de France win as he looks to regain momentum after a tough stage four.

Evenepoel, the Olympic time trial champion, finished the 33km course in 36 minutes and 42 seconds, while Pogačar was close behind with an overall lead of 42 seconds. The time trial provided the first significant shake-up in the general classification. Evenepoel’s teammate Luke Plapp placed ninth, while Ben O’Connor led the Australian charge in the standings.

The Tour de France continues with stage six, a 201.5km ride from Bayeux to Vire Normandie.
