Affordable Open-Source Robot Reaches Market

Hugging Face has launched the Reachy Mini, a compact, open-source robot designed for coding, education, and research. Priced at $299 for its “lite” version and $449 with a battery and on-board computer, the system is significantly more affordable than its full-size counterpart, the Reachy 2, which costs $70,000.

The Reachy Mini features a camera, microphones, speakers, and moving antennas, allowing it to interact with users through expressive motion. It can be programmed using Python and will support additional languages in the near future. Assembly is required for shipping, but the system’s open-source nature makes it an attractive option for researchers and developers.

This move by Hugging Face aligns with its commitment to openness and accessibility, particularly since its acquisition of Pollen Robotics earlier this year. The Reachy Mini joins a growing list of affordable open-source robots, including K-Bot, which was recently announced at $8,000.
