John Goodman Opens Up About His Relationship with Roseanne Barr Years After Her Firing

Actor John Goodman has spoken out about his relationship with the late Roseanne Barr, years after she was fired from her ABC sitcom “Roseanne” over racist tweets.

Goodman, 73, revealed that he hasn’t spoken to Barr in about seven or eight years and doesn’t know if she’d even want to talk to him. The two starred together as on-screen spouses on the show for nine seasons from 1988 to 1997. Goodman fondly looks back at their time together, saying they “hit it off” and had a lot of fun.

Despite Barr’s infamous tweets, which led to her show being canceled in 2018, Goodman praised her comedic skills. The sitcom returned for a 10th season but was canceled again after Barr posted several racist messages, including one that compared former Obama advisor Valerie Jarrett to an ape.

Barr later claimed she had received a message from God to send the tweet. After “Roseanne” was canceled, ABC ordered a spin-off series titled “The Conners,” which saw Goodman and other original cast members reprise their roles. Barr’s character was killed off after suffering an opioid overdose.

In a surprising twist, Barr offered to return as a guest star on “The Conners,” but was rejected by the show’s producers. The final episode of the series ended with Goodman’s character giving a heartfelt farewell to the audience.

Goodman has been busy working on new projects since the end of “Roseanne” and its spin-off, including a new movie with Tom Cruise. However, he suffered an injury on set that kept him sidelined for two months. Fortunately, he is almost fully recovered from the accident.
