Google Set to Offer Deep Discount on Cloud Services for US Government

Google is reportedly offering significant discounts on its cloud computing services for the United States government, in a deal that could be finalized within weeks. According to the Financial Times, this move comes as part of President Donald Trump’s efforts to reduce federal spending.

The Wall Street Journal had previously reported that Oracle will offer 75% discounts on its software licenses and “substantial” cloud service reductions through November. The General Services Administration has stated that Google’s contract is likely to follow a similar pattern, with Microsoft and Amazon Web Services expected to provide comparable discounts soon.

Google initially agreed in April to offer a 71% discount for U.S. federal agencies until September 30, which could potentially save the government up to $2 billion if widely adopted. The General Services Administration has confirmed that all major cloud providers are on board with this plan, stating their commitment to implementing the mission.
