Belkin has announced that it will end technical support for its older Wemo smart home devices on January 31, 2026. The company’s decision will impact a range of products, including smart plugs, light switches, and baby monitors. Belkin claims the move is necessary to shift focus towards other areas of its business.
Under the new policy, customers who purchased affected devices may be eligible for a partial refund. However, those who configured their devices with Apple’s HomeKit will continue to function normally without Wemo’s cloud services.
A similar decision has been made by Google, which is shutting down its older Nest devices and encouraging customers to upgrade to newer models.
This move allows companies to refocus their efforts on more profitable areas of their businesses, but it may leave consumers without access to technology that has become integrated into their daily lives.
