Australian Backpacker Found Alive After 12 Days in Bushland

A German backpacker, Carolina Wilga, has been found alive after going missing for 12 days in remote Western Australian bushland. She was discovered walking on a bush track near her abandoned vehicle, which was located about 150km from the nearest town.

Police Inspector Martin Glynn said Wilga had suffered minor injuries and had been forced to navigate through a hostile environment with limited resources. The police found her vehicle, a Mitsubishi van, in a remote area with mechanical issues, suggesting that she may have walked away after attempting to free it.

Wilga’s family had been notified of her safe condition, and the police are thanking locals and the wider community for providing information that led to her rescue. An investigation is underway to determine why Wilga abandoned her vehicle and what resources she may have carried with her during her ordeal.
