Elon Musk’s X Platform Under Investigation in France Over Data Tampering and Fraud Allegations

French prosecutors have launched a police investigation into alleged data tampering and fraud involving X, the social media platform founded by Elon Musk. The investigation is focused on two main allegations, including organized tampering with automated data processing systems and fraudulent extraction of data from these systems.

According to a statement from the Paris prosecutor’s office, the investigation was triggered by information received from two individuals in January, one of whom is a member of parliament and another a senior official at a French government institution. These individuals alleged that X’s algorithm was being used for foreign interference purposes.

The prosecution has confirmed that it conducted its own investigations and received additional information from French researchers and public institutions before deciding to open the police investigation. However, no further details on the allegations or how the algorithm was allegedly misused have been disclosed.

X has yet to comment on the investigation, which is being led by a branch of the French gendarmerie. The case remains ongoing, with the prosecutor’s office emphasizing that it will not provide any additional information at this time.
