Jurassic World: Rebirth Sparks Tourism Surge in Thailand

The release of Jurassic World: Rebirth has already earned over $318 million worldwide, but its impact on Thailand’s tourism industry goes beyond box office numbers. The film’s exotic backdrops and thrilling action sequences have sparked interest in exploring the country’s unique locations, with Google Trends data showing a significant increase in searches for filming locations and cast details.

Thailand, which was already basking in the spotlight thanks to The White Lotus Season 3, is now on the verge of another tourism surge. The Tourism Authority of Thailand has listed all filming locations from Ban Ba Kan National Park to Railay Beach, highlighting the importance of responsible travel and environmental conservation.

One of the primary filming locations, Khao Phanom Bencha National Park in Krabi, is home to a diverse array of wildlife, including white-handed gibbons and over 120 bird species. However, with only 20,000 annual visitors, the park’s fragile ecosystem may face strain if set-jetters arrive in large numbers.

Ko Kradan Island in Hat Chao Mai National Park in Trang Province was also featured prominently in the film but is largely CGI. Travelers visiting this island should help protect its delicate coral ecosystems by choosing reef-safe sunscreen and avoiding contact with corals.

Ao Phang Nga National Park, which has already appeared in James Bond films, adds another Hollywood title to its résumé. The park’s towering limestone karsts and emerald waters provide a stunning backdrop for the film’s scenes, but some areas are more crowded than others.

Klong Root, a quieter spot featured in the film, offers peaceful freshwater canals and crystal-clear waters. However, with the promotion of Jurassic World: Rebirth, expect to see a higher footfall, posing challenges for its limited infrastructure.

Beyond filming locations, Bangkok is preparing to take the franchise experience a step further with an immersive exhibition featuring animatronic dinosaurs and VR-enhanced sets. Hotels are also gearing up to welcome set-jetters with Jurassic-themed experiences, including guided tours and custom guidebooks.

As Thailand’s tourism industry prepares for another surge in interest, it’s essential to prioritize responsible travel and environmental conservation. By doing so, visitors can enjoy the country’s unique landscapes while supporting its conservation efforts.
