A US citizen, 21-year-old Sayfollah Musallet, was beaten to death by Israeli settlers in the occupied West Bank on Friday, according to local officials. Born in Florida, Musallet was visiting family in the village of Sinjil.
The incident occurred amid rising tensions between Palestinians and Israelis, with the US Department of Justice facing criticism over its handling of cases involving Israel and its citizens. The US embassy confirmed Musallet’s death, but Israeli officials have rarely prosecuted those accused of violence against Palestinians.
Since a deadly Hamas attack on Israel in October 2023, which killed over 1,200 people, tensions have increased, resulting in the deaths of more than 55,000 Palestinians. Israel’s response has also led to widespread suffering and a humanitarian crisis, with Gaza’s health infrastructure on the brink of collapse.
Despite international condemnation, the US continues to provide funding for the conflict, including $30 million for an Israeli-backed program controlling Gaza’s food supplies. Ongoing ceasefire efforts have been unsuccessful, leaving Musallet’s death as another tragic casualty of the ongoing violence.
