Italian cyclist Jonathan Milan edged out Australian Kaden Groves and Belgian Wout van Aert in a thrilling Stage 8 of the Tour de France, which finished in Laval, France. The stage, spanning 171 kilometers, saw a slower pace due to high temperatures, with only two riders initially breaking away from the peloton.
However, as sprinters realized their chances of winning were dwindling, the pack’s speed increased, and they caught up with Mathieu Burgaudeau and Matteo Vercher. In the final stages, Jonathan Milan seized the opportunity, outpacing Groves to take the stage win by a mere half bike length.
Defending champion Tadej Pogačar retained the yellow jersey after finishing in the main pack. The overall standings remain relatively unchanged, with Remco Evenepoel trailing 54 seconds behind Pogačar. Stage 9 is set for Sunday, with a 158-kilometer flat stage in central France that favors sprinters.
