AI Boosts Productivity, but Threatens Jobs Without Innovation

Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang warns that artificial intelligence will significantly boost workplace productivity, but if industries lack innovation, it could lead to job loss. According to Huang, the technology can eliminate jobs and cause unemployment spikes if companies don’t come up with fresh ideas.

Huang says that as long as companies generate new concepts, there’s room for productivity and employment growth. However, without innovation, “productivity drives down,” potentially resulting in fewer jobs.

The rise of AI investments has raised concerns about job threats. A survey by Adecco Group found 41% of chief executives believe AI will reduce workers at thousands of companies over the next five years. The World Economic Forum’s January survey also showed 41% of employers plan to downsize their workforce by 2030 due to AI automation.

Nvidia, which powers data centers for major tech firms like Microsoft and Google, is a leading company in the AI revolution. CEO Jensen Huang defends the development of AI, stating it has facilitated productivity increases over the years.

Huang also highlights that AI can change the way work is done, with more than half of large US firms planning to automate tasks previously done by employees. He believes AI “lifts the people who don’t understand technology” and is a significant equalizer.

However, Huang’s job has undergone changes due to AI advancements, but he remains employed. The CEO also mentions that AI tools like ChatGPT can aid in creative tasks, such as drafting job posts and building marketing campaigns.

The interview with Jensen Huang on CNN’s Fareed Zakaria GPS will be available on Sunday at 10 a.m. ET/PT.
