Bergen County Mosquito Control to Spray Through Oct. 31

Mosquito control operations in Bergen County will continue through October 31 to reduce adult mosquito populations and prevent the spread of insect-borne diseases. Residents are advised to take precautions.

Mosquitoes can carry diseases like West Nile virus, dengue, malaria, encephalitis, and yellow fever, posing risks to humans, pets, and livestock. The Bergen County Mosquito Control Division will apply approved insecticides using truck-mounted equipment or helicopters.

Residents can reduce mosquito populations by eliminating standing water, regularly emptying containers, cleaning gutters, and repairing window screens. Pet bowls and birdbaths should be refreshed weekly.

Advance notice of spraying is available upon request to the Bergen County Mosquito Control Division. Spray dates and locations are listed on the county’s website: co.bergen.nj.us/health-promotions/bergen-bites-back or co.bergen.nj.us/public-works-mosguitocontrol.
