Castel Gandolfo Prepares for Pope Leo XIV’s Visit

The parish of St. Thomas of Villanova in Castel Gandolfo is abuzz with excitement as it prepares to welcome Pope Leo XIV on Sunday, July 13. Fr. Tadeusz Rozmus, the Salesian parish priest, said that community members have redoubled their efforts to ensure a successful event.

The church, designed by Gian Lorenzo Bernini and commissioned by Pope Alexander VII in 1650, has undergone significant renovations, including the restoration of the papal coat of arms and new lighting. The grounds have also been cleaned up with the support of Vatican offices.

Beyond the physical preparations, the community’s spirit is driving the efforts. Fr. Rozmus expressed gratitude for the willingness of many to lend a hand, citing gestures such as a group of Opus Dei women who came from different places to assist.

Young people have also played a vital role in helping with liturgical services and crowd control. The priest praised their involvement, saying it’s wonderful to see them so engaged.

For Fr. Rozmus, Pope Leo XIV’s visit is not just an event but a symbol of unity as the Church works towards implementing the Synod on Synodality. He sees this as an opportunity for the community to come together and express their faith and love for the Pope and the Church.

With a focus on family, hospitality, and gratitude, the parish of St. Thomas of Villanova is set to welcome the Pope with a spirit of celebration.
