Air India Crash Fuel Switches Cut Off, Deepening Mystery

A report by India’s Aircraft Accident Investigation Bureau has found that the fuel switches of the crashed Air India Boeing 787 Dreamliner were cut off immediately after takeoff, adding to the mystery surrounding the crash. The plane, bound for London, crashed on June 12 at Ahmedabad airport, killing 241 people.

According to the preliminary report, both fuel switches moved to the cut-off position, stopping fuel supply to the engines. Investigators have identified “components of interest” for further examination and found that fuel samples from tanks used to refuel the aircraft were satisfactory.

Families of the victims are calling for a more transparent investigation into possible mechanical flaws or lapses in protocol. Ishan Baxi, cousin of sisters Dhir and Heer Baxi who died in the crash, said he was not satisfied with the report and hopes it will bring full clarity on what failed and who is accountable.

Relatives of those who died also released a statement, saying they require honesty, transparency, and an unwavering commitment to uncovering the truth. A lawyer advising some affected families described the findings as deeply concerning.

The investigation is ongoing, with the UK transport secretary expressing confidence in the work being done by Indian authorities, but standing ready to provide assistance if needed. The US National Transportation Safety Board is also involved in the inquiry.
