Israeli airstrikes have killed at least 12 people and injured over 40 in Gaza, including six children and a prominent doctor, amid talks of a ceasefire that are faltering.
The Palestinian health ministry reported that 139 bodies had been brought to hospitals in the past 24 hours, with many victims still under rubble. The total number of people killed since October 7, 2023, stands at 58,026.
The Israeli military acknowledged that an airstrike targeting an Islamic Jihad terrorist went wrong and munition fell dozens of meters from the target, saying the incident is under review.
Ceasefire talks in Doha between Israel and Hamas have stalled due to disagreements over Israeli troop redeployment. The talks had been on hold since Saturday, with a senior Hamas official claiming Israel added new conditions, including deployment maps for its presence in Gaza.
Israeli Prime Minister Netanyahu said his government accepted the US-led ceasefire plan but that Hamas rejected it, calling for an end to the conflict and the release of hostages. However, recent opinion surveys suggest that most Israelis support a deal that would bring an end to the war and return all the hostages, living and dead.
