A United Airlines flight from Los Angeles to Tokyo has declared an emergency and diverted to Seattle due to a medical situation on board. The Boeing 787-9, registration N29978, departed Los Angeles International Airport (LAX) at 10:45 PDT but turned around over the Pacific Ocean just over five hours into the flight.
The crew called in a distress signal, requesting priority landing in Seattle. The emergency is believed to be related to an injury sustained by a flight attendant. After a series of updates, including a new departure time, the plane finally landed safely at 4:48 PM on runway 34R.
Flight UA32 touched down six hours and two minutes after its scheduled departure from LAX. The aircraft has since arrived at gate S11, bringing an end to the emergency situation.
