Hartford Bakery Recalls Artisanal Bread Due to Undeclared Hazelnuts

Hartford Bakery, a Connecticut-based company, has voluntarily recalled hundreds of loaves of its “Lewis Bake Shop Artisan Style 1/2 Loaf” bread due to possible undeclared hazelnuts. The U.S. Food & Drug Administration (FDA) announced the recall on July 10.

The affected products were distributed in several states, including Alabama, Arkansas, Georgia, Illinois, Indiana, Kentucky, Michigan, Mississippi, Missouri, Ohio, Tennessee, and Wisconsin, at retailers such as Kroger and Walmart.

According to Hartford Bakery, the bread may pose a risk of serious or life-threatening allergic reactions to individuals with nut allergies or severe sensitivity to hazelnuts. The company has removed all products linked to six production lots affected by the recall.

While there have been no major reports of injury or illness related to the recalled bread, one customer experienced digestive discomfort and several consumers reported seeing nuts before consuming the product.

The recalled bread can be identified by its packaging, which includes lot codes T10 174010206, T10 174010306, T10 174010406, T10 174020206, T10 174020306, and T10 174020406 on the front panel. The UPC is 24126018152, with an expiration date of July 13, 2025.

The recall was initiated after Hartford Bakery discovered that about 883 loaves of bread contained visible hazelnuts and were incorrectly labeled as “May Contain Tree Nuts” instead of “Contains Hazelnuts.”
