Hartford, Connecticut-based bakery, Hartford Bakery, Inc., has issued a voluntary recall of six lots of its “Lewis Bake Shop Artisan Style 1/2 Loaf” bread due to the presence of undeclared hazelnuts. The recall affects products sold in 12 states, including Kentucky, Indiana, and Ohio.
The FDA discovered that approximately 883 loaves from these production lots contained visible hazelnuts, despite the packaging stating “May Contain Tree Nuts.” An investigation revealed a packaging error, which led to the mistake.
Consumers with nut allergies or severe sensitivities to hazelnuts are at risk of serious or life-threatening allergic reactions if they consume the affected products. The company urges customers who purchased these breads to return them for a full refund.
To contact Hartford Bakery for more information or to report a concern, call 1-812-425-4642 from Monday through Friday between 8:00 a.m. and 3:00 p.m. CST, excluding holidays.
