Baseball Commissioner Rob Manfred has defended his decision to include Milwaukee Brewers rookie right-hander Jacob Misiorowski in the All-Star Game, despite criticism from some quarters. Misiorowski, who has pitched in just five games this season, was selected for the game based on “the excitement that would be generated” and “fan interest,” according to Manfred.
Misiorowski’s impressive debut, including a 100.5 mph fastball in his first pitch and five no-hit innings in his second start, earned him widespread attention. The 6-foot-7 rookie has quickly become a sensation, with a 4-1 record, 2.81 ERA, and 33 strikeouts in just 25⅔ innings.
However, some have questioned whether Misiorowski’s relatively short time on the field merits his All-Star selection over more established players. Los Angeles Dodgers manager Dave Roberts, who is skipper of the National League All-Stars, defended Misiorowski, saying that if it brings excitement to the game, then he’s “all about it.”
Misiorowski remained unfazed by criticism, including from Philadelphia’s Trea Turner, stating that his inclusion in the All-Star Game was a surprise, but not unwelcome. With the MLB All-Star break underway, Misiorowski is set to take the stage alongside other top players and entertain fans with his impressive skills.
