NASA’s New Horizons Captures Accurate Color Image of Pluto

NASA’s New Horizons spacecraft captured the most accurate natural color image of Pluto in 2015. The image was created by refining data from the New Horizons’ color Multispectral Visible Imaging Camera (MVIC). This process allows for images that mimic human eye perception, bringing them closer to “true color”. A single MVIC scan includes no data from other instruments and reveals striking features, including Pluto’s icy “heart” Sputnik Planitia.
