The Seattle Seahawks are halfway through their “death mode” challenge, issued by coach Mike Macdonald, and the results are promising. With four consecutive victories, including a 30-18 win over the Arizona Cardinals, the team is strengthening its hold on first place in the NFC West.
“We’re in playoff mode, man,” said veteran left guard Laken Tomlinson. The message has been clear since Macdonald’s challenge, which was issued when the team was 4-5. The Seahawks are now 8-2 and looking to secure a spot in the playoffs.
Quarterback Geno Smith had a calm and efficient day, completing 24 of 30 passes for 233 yards and a touchdown. His performance was aided by a solid outing from his offensive line, which is considered one of the best in the league.
“We’ve been living in the ‘death zone,'” said linebacker Ernest Jones IV. “Each game is a playoff game in our eyes.” The team’s mentality has been key to their success, with each player believing that every game is a must-win.
But can this mentality be sustained for two months? Jones acknowledged the challenge but expressed confidence in his teammates. “I think we’ve got the right guys,” he said.
The Seahawks’ next test will come against the Green Bay Packers on Sunday night, followed by a matchup with the Minnesota Vikings. Coach Macdonald is pleased with the team’s response to his challenge so far, but remains focused on winning each game.
