GenAI Fuels 3,300% Surge in US Retail Traffic on Prime Day

Amazon’s Prime Day saw a significant increase in retail traffic driven by generative AI products, including chatbots and browsers. According to Adobe Analytics, GenAI traffic to U.S. retail sites rose by 3,300% year-over-year, exceeding the firm’s original forecast.

The event drove $24.1 billion in online spend, representing 30.3% year-over-year growth, equivalent to two Black Fridays. However, paid search accounted for a larger share of sales at 28.5%, with social media influencers driving 19.9% of U.S. online retail sales during the event.

Top categories that saw strong growth included appliances (up 112%), office supplies (up 105%), electronics (up 95%), and tools and home improvement (up 76%). This surge in GenAI-driven traffic suggests increased consumer interest in using AI-powered chat services and browsers as online shopping assistants.
