Trump’s Tariff Letters Spark Global Economic Concerns

US President Donald Trump has sent 90 trade deals letters to foreign leaders in a bid to speed up negotiations. The letters, which include tariffs rates and deadlines, have sparked mixed reactions globally.

The letters are often filled-in-the-blank templates with salutations, grievances, and threats of higher tariffs. They lack diplomatic tone and language, instead concluding with generic phrases such as “Thank you for your attention” and “Best wishes.”

Trump appears to have focused on Canada and Brazil, imposing 35% tariffs on Canadian imports and threatening a 50% increase on Brazilian goods. However, it’s unclear whether these measures will benefit American consumers.

Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney has expressed support for the new deadline, while Brazilian President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva has vowed retaliatory tariffs if Trump’s letter is delivered to his palace in Brasilia.
