COVID-19 Cases Rise Across 25 US States Amid Summer Peak

COVID-19 cases are increasing across 25 states in the US, including Florida, Texas, California, and Ohio, according to a CDC report. The data suggests another summer of illness could be on the horizon as vaccination waning natural immunity and the virus mutate.

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) has reported two consistent annual peaks in COVID-19 circulation – one in late summer and winter since 2020. Despite this, cases remain low in most areas, with emergency department visits and wastewater surveillance showing minimal activity.

However, experts are monitoring a more transmissible variant, NB.1.8.1, nicknamed “nimbus”, which has been linked to increased throat infections. The CDC reports that over 2,000 California National Guard members are being withdrawn from Los Angeles after a month-long deployment, amid tension between the administration and Governor Gavin Newsom.

Meanwhile, illegal border crossings have reached their lowest point in decades, according to US Customs and Border Protection numbers. This data suggests President Trump’s hardline immigration approach is yielding results.
