UFC president Dana White has revealed that he won’t be granting Max Holloway a retirement fight in Hawaii just for accepting UFC 318, citing the challenges of finding a suitable venue. The move comes as Holloway faces Poirier for a third time at UFC 318 on July 19.
White acknowledged the dream of bringing the Octagon to his home country of Hawaii but stated that it’s not going to happen due to several key issues, including finding a suitable venue. He emphasized that both fighters are beloved by fans, and it won’t be an “enemy territory” situation for Holloway.
The upcoming bout between Poirier and Holloway will mark Poirier’s final fight in front of his home crowd in Louisiana. In contrast to the special treatment given to Poirier, White doubts that Holloway will receive a similar sendoff when he decides to retire.
