Google’s AI Search Feature Helps Gen Z Make Phone Calls Without Anxiety

Google has launched a new AI search feature that makes it easier for people to check current pricing and availability for services at local businesses without having to make phone calls. The tool, which is designed to help users who struggle with making phone calls due to social anxiety, uses agentic AI to act on behalf of the user.

According to Google, this new feature can be particularly helpful for Gen Zers, who are more likely to experience social anxiety when it comes to making phone calls. A recent study found that 25% of 18- to 34-year-olds never answer the phone at all.

The new tool allows users to search for local businesses and then selects a few top recommendations based on Google reviews. The user is then asked a series of questions related to their needs, which are used by an AI to make calls to the selected businesses. The results are sent back to the user as emails or texts.

While this feature is still in its early stages, it has the potential to simplify tasks for people who struggle with social anxiety. The tool sets daily limits on how many times a business can be contacted within a day and provides each business with an opportunity to opt out of calls if they choose.
