Veteran music supervisor Robin Kaye, best known for her work on “American Idol,” has left behind a legacy of kindness and joy after being brutally murdered along with her husband Tom Deluca in their Encino home. Kaye, 70, served as the show’s music supervisor from 2009 to 2023 and contributed to nearly 300 episodes during her tenure.
Kaye’s peers have paid tribute to her, describing her as a “cornerstone of the ‘Idol’ family” and a “dear friend” to many. Singer-songwriter Didi Benami, who competed on Season 9 of “Idol,” praised Kaye as one of the kindest souls she had ever worked with, saying “She was truly one of a kind.”
The suspect in the killings, 22-year-old Raymond Boodarian, has a history of arrests and mental health challenges. He allegedly broke into the couple’s home through an unlocked door and confronted them when they returned.
In a statement, “American Idol” described Kaye as someone who was “truly loved and respected by all who came in contact with her.” Randy Jackson, one of the show’s original judges, also paid tribute to Kaye, saying she “consistently went the extra mile” in ensuring songs were placed and cleared for the show.
The incident has left the music industry in shock, with longtime collaborator Brad Segal highlighting Kaye’s sympathetic nature, loyalty, and dedicated work ethic.
