Delta Expands at LAX with New Routes to Hong Kong and Chicago

Delta Airlines is expanding its presence at Los Angeles International Airport (LAX), adding daily flights to Hong Kong on June 6, 2026, and three daily flights to Chicago O’Hare starting June 7, 2026. The new routes are part of Delta’s efforts to strengthen its position in the market.

The airline’s success is attributed to well-located hubs, strong international routes, and a focus on premium passengers willing to pay more for seats. According to analysts, Pacific revenue growth has been a key driver, with both Delta and United reporting significant increases in this area.

Meredith Dixon, Senior Analyst at Octus, notes that capacity growth in the Pacific region has contributed to these increases. The weakness of the Japanese yen has spurred higher travel demand to Japan from the US, while partnerships with carriers like Korean Air and All Nippon Airways have expanded transpacific revenues.

Delta is also looking to dominate LAX, where it is already the leading carrier. Next year, it will add flights to Hong Kong and Chicago, further solidifying its position in the market.

United Airlines has also been expanding its Pacific routes, with plans to offer flights from San Francisco to Adelaide and Manila. The airline’s dominance in this region will now see it offering flights from the US to 32 different cities in the Pacific, four times that of any other US carrier.
