Foldable iPhones Set New Standard for ‘Crease-Free’ Screens

Samsung’s next-generation Galaxy Z Fold 8 is expected to feature a “crease-free” screen, thanks to the use of laser-drilled metal display plates. According to supply chain analyst Ming-Chi Kuo, the component will be supplied by South Korean company Fine M-Tec. Apple’s foldable iPhone is also aiming for a similar design, with the inner screen being supplied by Samsung and the Fine M-Tec plate enabling the “crease-free” feat.

Kuo expects the foldable iPhone to launch next year, with a 7.8-inch inner display, a 5.5-inch outer display, two rear cameras, one front camera, and a Touch ID power button. The device’s starting price is expected to be between $1,800 and $2,000 in the US.

The “crease-free” requirement has raised the bar for foldable devices, with Samsung’s Galaxy Z Fold 8 now following Apple’s lead. This innovation uses laser-drilled metal display plates to disperse stress generated by bending, resulting in a smooth screen experience.
