Apple Unveils Ultra-Thin iPhone Air with 6.25mm Thickness

Apple is set to release an ultra-thin version of the iPhone Air, dubbed the iPhone 17 Air, which will be two millimeters thinner than the iPhone 16 Pro. Measuring just 6.25mm in thickness, the new device will take the crown from the iPhone 6, which was 6.9mm thin when released in 2014.

The iPhone 17 Air will feature a 6.6-inch display and rely on computational photography with only one rear camera. It will be powered by the non-Pro A19 application processor (AP) and come equipped with 8GB of RAM to support Apple Intelligence.

While the specs may seem lacking, Apple hopes that the ultra-thin design will drive demand for the new device. The iPhone 17 Air will boast an in-house 5G modem chip, which will debut earlier next year in the iPhone SE 4. By using its own custom modem chip, Apple aims to fit camera, battery, and display systems into a thinner body.

The move marks an interesting experiment by Apple as it tries to gauge whether consumers will pay more for a new iPhone based solely on its design. The device is expected to be priced higher than the iPhone 17 Pro Max, which might raise eyebrows among fans of the top-of-the-line model.
