EscaPADE Mission Delayed Again as New Launch Date Announced

Blue Origin has confirmed that a pair of EscaPADE probes will launch into space as part of the second mission of the New Glenn rocket, but the exact date remains uncertain.

The EscaPADE mission aims to study Mars’ magnetosphere and atmosphere, as well as its interaction with the solar wind. Originally scheduled for October 2024, the plan was scrapped due to the carrier’s unreadiness.

However, NASA specialists have devised an alternative route. The probes will initially orbit the L2 Lagrange point of the Sun-Earth system, where they’ll spend a year observing space weather. They’ll then perform a gravitational maneuver near Earth and head for Mars, expected to arrive in 2027.

The launch is scheduled for late 2025, following an initial tentative date of November 2025, although Blue Origin’s plans for the New Glenn rocket are still evolving due to issues with its maiden flight.
