‘Late Show’ Cancellation Sparks Outrage Among Late-Night Hosts

The cancellation of “The Late Show with Stephen Colbert” has sparked an outpouring of support from fellow late-night TV hosts and celebrities. The decision, made by CBS, was announced on Thursday, with the show set to end in May 2026 after over 30 years on air.

Jimmy Kimmel, host of ABC’s “Jimmy Kimmel Live!”, shared Colbert’s on-air announcement about the cancellation in an Instagram Story post, praising his fellow late-night TV host. Jimmy Fallon also expressed shock and support for Colbert, calling him “one of the sharpest, funniest hosts to ever do it.”

Other celebrities, including Andy Cohen, Adam Scott, Katie Couric, Judd Apatow, and Rachel Zegler, have taken to social media to express their sadness over the cancellation. Journalist Katie Couric even requested more information about the decision.

CBS president George Cheeks cited financial constraints as the reason for the cancellation, stating that it was not related to the show’s performance or content. The news comes amidst a broader shake-up at CBS, with Paramount seeking to sell the network to Skydance Media.

President Trump, however, celebrated the news of Colbert’s cancellation, writing in a social media post that he “absolutely love[ed]” that Colbert got fired. He also took aim at other late-night hosts, calling Jimmy Kimmel “has even less talent than Colbert.”
