Will ‘The Daily Show’ Survive After Colbert’s ‘Late Show’ End?

Comedian and former host of “The Daily Show” Jon Stewart expressed concerns about the future of his show after Stephen Colbert announced that his own late-night program “The Late Show” will end in May 2026. Paramount, which owns both shows, is currently undergoing a $8 billion merger with Skydance.

Stewart said he hasn’t heard from Comedy Central about any plans for “The Daily Show,” but remains optimistic, stating he’s been kicked out of worse establishments than that. He acknowledged his own uncertainty about the show’s future, saying he doesn’t know what to expect.

However, Stewart expressed confidence in the importance of “The Daily Show” as a unique voice on Comedy Central, which he believes would be lost without it. In an interview, he likened the network to music if it didn’t have its shows, suggesting that “The Daily Show” is essential to its identity.

Colbert’s announcement came after just hours of his podcast episode dropping, in which he shared the news with his audience and expressed sadness about the end of “The Late Show.” In a statement, CBS cited financial reasons for the decision, stating that Colbert was irreplaceable and would be retiring the franchise.
